Anyone care to give cam suggestions for an OEM roller lifter block? Stock bottom end, fresh 355, GM 441 heads, +.100 pistons, running approx. 9-9.5:1 compression, 4:10 gears. I was leaning towards Comp XR270HR but I'm afraid it might be too much. TIA

I wouldn’t go any larger with that cylinder head... I’ve used this cam with vortecs and had good results but they flow better than a 441

Vortecs are really decent heads for cheap. If you want that added power but don't wanna drop a lot of money, vortec heads are damn good. Even in stock form, as long as you stay under 500 lift, you'll have good results. I have been testing a set this year. They did good with a stock cam, but I didn't feel they had enough low end, so I went with a K1102 summit brand cam. This is a budget build and was testing, so didn't wanna waste a lot of money. The cam and heads really pepped up the engine. I was happy for a stockish engine. But, I just changed the cam out to a summit k1106 and gonna see how the heads will handle it. With the stock springs, I'm hitting almost 7k rpm, but I'm thinking they won't hold. But gonna run them a couple times and see. My guess is coil-bind will be the first issue. Everything seems good measurement wise, but you never know at high rpms. Over the winter, I'm gonna test a few more theory with vortec heads.

Just scored a GM Goodwrench 350 with about 8000 miles on it. I was gonna put some good heads and good cam in it. But I’m a little worried about the bottom. Is there anything else I should do to make it even better.

Put a good set of bearings in and a new oil pump. No matter what, I always spend the money on bearings and an oil pump for every motor I pick up.

I have a few sets but havent put the effort into any to see how they would benefit. I always pulled them off and threw a set of world sportsman heads on. Now I'm trying to experiment with a few different stock breeds and see where they fall. I will say though, the stock vortec 062 heads have really surprised me. For the cost vs. performance, the world sportmans might not be worth it.

No sir...... the pros of cutting for bigger valves do not outweigh the cons that it will create.....

I’m really interested in hear about this I just got some Vortec Heads I put some different springs that will allow for more lift but I was thinking about running a summit 1102 or 1103 cam just don’t wanna lose torque

I've had them recently warm this year so far. But I'm still worried about cracking. But I can go pick a good set up for $100 all day, so the pros are still outweighing the cons.

Has anyone ever bought the carb/dist combo from Colyer? Looking at getting a good derby prepped carb. I have a good carb now but it has the small air cleaner neck. Also, there is a piece that has 2 set screws to hold on the piece that the air cleaner bolts to. I’m having problems keeping the air cleaner piece on the carb. (I have an adapter to go to the big neck air cleaner base plate)

I’m sure jeff’s Stuff will suit you just fine. I would ask him what air cleaner setup he uses and go with that.

Jeff's work is top notch, you would be very happy with it. He generally uses a drop base aluminum 14" air cleaner. The neck fit a 2g so no adapter is needed.
