Yep. If it's a gasser and not a Scooter model, it's a 1.6
After you strip all of the non essential wiring, all that should be left is a pigtail off of your alternator (if you use one), the 2 wire harness from your coil to your distributor, one wire off your starter solenoid, and a 2 wire pigtail hanging off your coil.
The coil negative is within the 2 wire harness that goes from the distributor to the coil. The positive is one of the other 2. I don't remember which one, but putting power to one will give you spark, putting power to the other will not.

On the 4 speeds if the shifter is working but its not going into gear pull the tail shaft housing and check the output shaft snap ring. I got a preran 85 Chevette and that is what busted on it. The gear on lower left is the output gear That wasn't the problem. I'm not sure if that's what everyone talks about breaking.,my problem was when you pull the 3 bolts off on the top of the tranny, there is a piece that kooks to the input shaft, and a small bolt that the fork of the shifter sits on to shift. They make the bolts so small, and gm cans up with the lovely idea of having to push down to shift into reverse. The bolts are so small, when you do so, it bends the bolt, and the fork won't be on it, making it not being able to shift into gear. I replaced it and the next day when I moved car, it bent already. So I knocked the roll pin out, took the cast piece off, felled the whole out bigger and tapped it. The bolt just fit inside the fork. I tapped it then put a lock nut on it so it won't break loose. Haven't had a problem sense. Believe I put a quarter inch bolt in it. If you ever run into the problem, that is the best idea I came up with

Alright. I've read through the read and seen one pic. Has anyone ever made a pretty solid distributor protector for these 1.6s? I got an 86, and the subframe just gave at the a-arms. Was gonna put a piece of angle in there, but I know it won't hold up much. The two times it has ran. The distributor has taken it out. First time, broke the shaft and housing, second time just popped the cap. I want to be able to go forward and not have to worry. I know it'll happen. The bumper will get pushed into the distributor. I want the protector to hold it down. I've got plenty of 1/2" plate, I just want some ideas.

Never had a problem with my distributor.. My problem was kept popping spark plugs wires off.. I got 5 runs out of mine and it was stock. Only thing I did was put a good piece of flat stock behind bumper and the bumper flattened out and stayed, and I put a driveline protector on it. Probably the biggest thing I found out about it. I nosed with it probably 95% of the time, never once had a problem with the distributor, with 5 runs

PS bracket make decent protector. Zip ties or wire criss-crossed around cap.

That's one thing I don't get about this car. It was literally a trophy winning car. A lady had it, took it to car shows and competitions with it, that's how clean it is. It's not a rusted out shitter. I think it all started from taking a weird front-left hit in the first derby. I want the next derby to its last, but want to run it longer than 3 minutes.

Has anybody ever leafed a chevette if so what leafs did you use and how did you do it thanks The one i did years ago it had a set of early caravan leaf's, i'd made front brackets and bolted to the floor , and for the rear it had long shackles that went thru the floor wit a bolt going thru the rear frame rail. It would of been better if i'd mounted a bracket to the under side of car. rules said working shackles all cars have bounce. and had to run factory shocks , allthread would of made it better. I used the stock diff on mine. i'll get picture of it up later this evening after work.

Can I run 15" tires on the front? Medium height 14's are a tight squeeze.

Can I run 15" tires on the front? 195/75/14's pushes the limits.
