So tie rods, motor mounts, and dp?should the struts be swapped for pipe or just weld the slider?can they handle a loaded bumper?and I heard the rear spindles are only held on by sway bars?should I weld the motor mounts to the frame, engine block,or both?

Figured I would throw this in, the tranny mount, which is a double stud with a solid rubber center is extremely weak and when it fails, the motor drops and and pulls the CVS shafts apart.
I fixed mine by putting in a long bolt with a stack of washers and and rubber body washer off of one of my full size cars to try to relieve some of the stress of impacts off of tranny. It worked like a charm.
I have 3 runs on my tempo and may get a 4th.

It's been a few years back, can't remember what we welded but it fixed the problem

I had built several 70s GMs, but only a couple of compacts when I built my tempo. I looked at the motor mounts on top and didn't even think of looking at the tranny mount. At least it only takes a few minutes to fix it.

I feel mine has a decent amount of pep but alot of that is going to depend on what kind of shape your engine is in. Tempos are pretty good cars to learn with.

Thanks, the guy i'm buying it from says the motor and trans are great, and this is only my 4th car build so will definitely fun to learn with.

I ran my tempo in September.got 5th out of 30 cars.my battery and tank would not stay held down cause florra were rotted so bad.battery flipped over and killed all the cells.when it stalled that was it....can back in the consi with v8's and trucks.took second when car stalled again and destroyed my relay on the fender.bone stock with a home made bumper and shocks in the frame.welded the trunk ansnit went down.but never dragged.I'd pay decent money for another one that free.got my first trophey with it.fresh battery and that relay moved I could have won against big cars.highlight of the night was moving outta the way just in time to put a full size ford on the barrier.

You should have cut part of the trunk off so it would pack in. The preran that I ran last year the trunk wasn't tucked and it pulled the bottom part of the body and ripped it clear off of the rear part of the frame. Make sure you also move the fuel cutoff switch that is located inside the trunk on the drivers side back fender.

Okay ran into a huge problem today, started her up and it runs so bad, stalled out 2 times when shifting into reverse and sounds just like carp. So I'm not to sure what it is, what I'm thinking is it's something with the air. So on the front of the engine there's that circular thing with a tube coming out of it going to the air filter box, and the other one runs down to the cat. I'm wondering if disconnecting this tube screwed up something with the car. It's a 1993 and ran fine a few months ago but it's sat and hasn't needed to be started till today and it runs horrible. All my electrical stuff is all good. So anyone know how to fix that problem? Thanks

Thanks It shouldn't have affected it with the air filter box off because mine is on my 1989 you might want to check the vacuum lines or check your fuel filter. I ran into the same problem on mine. There should be a vacuum line right beside the passenger side strut under the hood check and see if that hose as a hole in it or not
