Yes, th400 does shift. I just couldn't remember if a mopar would. I've never really thought about it before, but what would be wrong with using the trans in drive, instead of low.

I only use drive with my shifter setup. Only problem is if the sprag clutch blows up but usually if that happens you won't be running much longer anyway before the pieces start clogging up the valve body

The tranny will not shift up when running manual low because there is no line pressure to the governor, which there is when you are in drive. The only other difference from manual low and drive is the rear band is applied in manual low. The gear ratio is also the same in both. As stated above the main problem with drive is the pressure on the sprag.

This might be a stupid question. I swapped tranny from on engine to another and I need a new torque converter. Should I get one for the engine it's going on or one from the engine it was on. I have the fly wheels for both, but I have not compaired to see if they are the same yet. tranny is going from a 440 to a 413 Thanks in advance

this is just a wild ass guess but, the coarse spline is about 10 splines the fine spline is about 20 and the lockup will be a fine spline but will have a machined down portion on the end of the shaft the small shaft in the middle is what you want to look at hope this helps, kinda hard to explain without pics of the diff. styles

Did some research, it is not a lock up. I will go back and count splines. I was told it was out of a 72ish imperial. I will also take a pic. Thanks for your quick responses!

ok i got a rebuilt 727 and ran it for the first time yesterday and after about 5 min idle and 10 min of normal driving i noticed the tranny lines were kinda quivering and this was after the motor wsas shut down i was wondering if this was normal or what could be causing it?

Picked up a 94 magnum 318 and auto was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these trannys. I have a 3spd and button clutch that I have been running but got this drivetrain at a very good price and is just under 68,000 mi. Love the stick shift setup but thought I'd ask about this one before I dive in

just bought a 76 royal monaco tonight, running 360 it in... guy claims it has a 727 behind it, said he knows its a 727 cuz 904s didnt come behind 360's... is this true? I thought they had either, I can tell the difference but didnt climb under it to look and find out... hoping its a 727 so i can hook my slider up to it

The 727 tailshafts are alot longer travis. Compare it to the 727 behind your 400. If its the same length tailshaft housing its a 727. if its a lot shorter its a 904.

I need to replace the trans behind a 318 but all I have is 727's off 360's can I just remove the weights off the tc and run it behind the 318?

Here is a picture of the pans...Also, I think it is about 4" difference in length between a 904 and 727.
