Well I ripped around the field with only 1st, and it seems to be gettin it pretty good with the 273 gears. I'm going to run figure 8 with only 1st and reverse this Saturday. We'll see how she does.

I'm kind of in a bind on building my 73 Riviera.... I'm waiting on cage material, and an open spot with concrete to set my Magnum 318 in. That being said, I've got a couple questions.....
1) I've got options when it comes to transmission selection... I've got numerous 904's, a couple 727's, and an A230 3 speed. I'm pretty sure the 3 speed's clutch is cable operated. I'm wondering which levers control 1st and reverse and 2nd/3rd.
2) What is the most efficient way to mount any of the listed transmissions in a Buick?

Has any had a Mopar tranny break around where the starter is? I had it happen this weekend when I made a really nasty head on hit... I've never heard of it hearing before so figured I'd check, I excepted the bell housing to break with how i had everything tied down but this happened instead

Question for you mopar guys-I had the center splines of the planetary strip out. This was a trans completely rebuilt just before this derby. I know the planetary was ok on assembly. I had the kickdown wired 3/4 back and plenty of room in the driveshaft spline so it wasn't binding on the output shaft. Anyone have an idea? Random part failure?

Random part failure? what year? 75 down have less spline than the 76 up. have seen it a few times not sure what caused it for sure whether was shifted at high rpms or just fatigue. If i was to build another one i would get a 76 up output shaft and planets to match. I think then you can put the newer steel planets in to find the next weak spot.

Does the A230 have a unique slip yoke, or does it use the same as a 727? I don't have a 727 yoke, I do have the 230 yoke, but I'm wanting to use it with a slider.

I just got a 383 which i believe is internally balanced with no tranny but I have numerous 727s from behind 400bbm early 70s which I think are externally balanced so I should be able to grind weights off to run these torque converters behind the 383?

Sure can! there is a myth that early 400's were internally balanced too, but I think that's bs.... believe it when i see one. Yes, all 383's were internally balanced just like you said, just knock off/grind off weights and your in business.

Thanks! I agree with the 400 myths, even heard some had steel cranks but I've never seen it

I'm 99% sure you can use any 727 torque converter Big or small block.

I have a 2000 5.9 magnum with the flex plate so do I just need a neutral balanced torque converter then to use my 727? If so who makes them

I pulled the trans out of a 96 Dodge van and curious if there is any electronics that need to be attached or can it be ran to another magnum without any issues? The case reads 064-2. Not quiet sure on the serial number.
