How far is everyone tieing back there kickdowns? Also is a transmission cooler really needed? Always looped lines on th400s and never broke one so I don't really believe in coolers. thanks you found the right thread, this is all discussed here several times.

Going to hook a 360 up to a 904... The 360 normally had a 727 behind it and the 904 had a 318 in front of it... Now I know that the 318 torque converters didn't have the weights on them and the 360s did... Now the issue I have is the only torque converter I have is the stock one for that 904... Is it going to be disastrous to hook up the 904 to the 360 without the weights on the torque converter? Need an answer asap!!!

Sounds like your only option would be to order that TCI flex plate that's weighted and has the holes for both bigger and smaller torque converter bolt pattern...

Shit... Was scared of that, I'll just pull a 318/727 that I already have in use then...

I have a 904 out of a mid 80s 5th avenue. Im having trouble finding the rear seal for the tranny where the slip yoke slides in. Part store gave me a seal with a part # 7300s. The od is to big. The seal I took out measures about 2.373 od. Anyone happen to know a part number?

Tell the parts guy you need one for a 904, which if he finds it, it should be Part Number 2506. (At Autozone)

Any 3 speed manuals to avoid? I have a chance to buy one from behind a 383, and I'm wondering if I can simply get a different bell housing (maybe off the NV3500 I mentioned before) and put it behind my 318 mag?

If its behind a 383 that would be an a230. Tough transmission! would definitely handle it. the bell housing off of any other LA small block should bolt up just fine. I am unsure about if there would be fly wheel/pressure plate weight issues but you should have no problem finding a bell housing to pin that up to a magnum. look for anything with a small block and 3 on the tree should have a suitable bell housing. im pretty sure even the 833 4 speed bellhousing matches up as well.

i had a 360/727 in a crown vic. cracked a head on the 360. all i could find close and cheap was a 318. did the research as far as the balance weight and assumed i would be good to go if i used the 360 flywheel and cut the weight off the torque converter. the engine runs good and dosent seem to vibrate but now their is a lound clank in the tranny in reverse only. forward gears are fine. any insight as to what i did wrong? or is it just the tranny? any help would be appreciated.

I have a 727 from a mid 60s 318 and I have a 70s 360 with a 904.. I want to put the 727 on the 360. Are the weights the only issue? I've read this thread and I'm not to mechanically inclined I just do it and hope it works haha. So what do I need to interchange? Do i use the existing flexplate and use The existing 727 tc? Or what I'm a bit confused on which flexplate and tc I should use. So after going through this thread again. My understanding is I'll need a weighted flex plate or tc?

I kinda suspect that noise may be a coincidence, the issue of weights vs. no weights would cause vibrations at certain RPMs (and at steady RPM, not transient) but not clunks. Drop the pan and check that the rear band is adjusted properly and just look around to see if anything is obviously loose.

I have encountered some different bolt patterns on the flexplates but usually everything lines up ok. Test fit them first to be certain. To do it 100% right you can buy the B&M weighted flex plate, or try to find a way to attach some weight in about the same place. You can also debate whether weights are really needed on an engine that is not going to be held at constant RPM for more than a few seconds at a time....

Thanks for The response. The torque converter that came with the 360 was the same size as the torque converter from the 727 so I just married the two and hooked it to the engine. Ran perfect no vibration. This 727 seems almost invincible.
