Also was wondering if you guys could settle an argument for me. I know imperials are strong and so on. But is right for them to ban 75 imperial but not a 75 newport. I thought they were pretty much the same. They told me there was a difference in the two, is there or are they the same frame and body overall? If so is there a way to disguise this?

A 74 imperial is a little better than the rest of the shockers.Sometimes most 74 shockers are better than the rest... They all bend, just some bend faster than the outhers.

Also to answer a previous question. All 74 and up imperials should be allowed to run at derbys that allow mopar shockers to compete. The 73 and older subframe imperials are a whole different animal than a 74 and newer imperial.

Ok, thanks guys I appreciate it. I was thinking of running that imperial but the promoter where I am from is still trying to tell me no. Even though he says I can bring my 77 newport.

Is there anything that is visually different? rear marker lights in 1/4 panel are different once its all stripped out thats it.Tell them its a 1977 newyorker if they say no imperials allowed. and weld in a patch of metal or take torch and cut a square hole out where rear side marker light would be,or fill hole in with bondo.

Your steering wheel might have the bird on it either change that or pull the decal off also I would change out the disc brake rear to 8 3/4 or if you don't have one put in another stock 9 1/4
I personally think the 74-75 imps tend to stay straight a little longer than comparable shockers but that is just personal exp I have never cut them up when finsihed so could not tell you exactly if there are any hidden secrets but I'm sure someone has

if i remember correctly... dont 74 and up imps have disc brakes all the way around? where other shockers have drums in the back... I think that and the mark lights are the only differences...
Id tell the promoter that it was a newport... you'll get through ;D

Decker- yeah disc brakes all way around only 74-75 had the disc brake rear. Take it out and sell it to a hot rodder or something

So in a bone stock class where you can weld doors but only wire the trunk, how many would agree with the idea of running without a back bumper? In the pics i've seen, I like how they've packed in without the bumper. Got a super clean Newport and I hate the thought of wasting it in one show but that's the chance we take I guess ;D

Ran no rear bumper on a y framer, I personally had bad things happen but that was my own fault... I like thee pics I see of without a back bumper too... my 76 yorker I'm buildin for next year will just have a skin on the back... the rear bumpers are too good on the fronts of cars to waste them on the back

^^ different animals in the back...
up here in NY... a bunch of guys are running no back bumper... no shocks and the rear tucked...I originally didnt think it would work... i thought they were wasting the backs... BUT after watching them for a few years i think Im going to start running them without a back bumper. they do seem to pack in nice, and roll right to the speaker decks.. so im gonna try it...But i dont think you can lay haymakers without the bumper on there.
You know if you leave the bumper you get a bunch of good solid hits with it, but when it bends it, it whaletails QUICKLY..JMO ;D

I ran a few a few years ago with no back bumpers they do pack in nice but they go quickly I like the back bumper on to control the roll with the proper clamps and proper notching they will roll the same way up to speaker deck with bumper attached.
