You probably have the small flexplate 153 tooth if I recall, need the larger 168 tooth

Which flex plate do you have? Small flex plate only has the smaller pattern. Most likely you have a 153 tooth you need a 168. If you change to the bigger flex plate you'll need to change starters.

Yep. Works fine now. Bought 168 tooth flexplate and new starter. Thanks for the help.

So I have a bop trans bolted to a sbc with bracket to make it work. But when I went to line up the torque convertor it doesn’t match up to the sbc flexplate. Torque convertor is to big. So my question is would I have to swap torque convertor out or the flexplate? Kinda out of ideas. How did that tranny adapter hold up in derby? thinking of buying one. Did you have to run a shim washer between torque converter and fly wheel?

demoboy333 those adapters work fine, just dont cheap out and buy the cheap 30 dollar one, Transdap has a much thicker one for less than 100 and a couple washers between the flexplate and converter work just fine.

Definitely needed washer between torque convertor and flexplate. I used the spacers from my distributor protector since rules went away with them around here.

Bought a new rebuilt th400 and I just noticed it’s a 6 bolt pump and not a 8 bolt pump. Is there that much difference in strength. It will have a steel bell and tail shaft on it but no protectors. I always put a little pressure on the trans tunnel with me trans even when I don’t have protectors but I have never had a 6 bolt pump trans. Does anyone have suggestions on who has the best steel tail shafts out there. There sure is a lot of them on the market!!!!! Thanks

Best is nerat but without protectors they're all the same, 6 is definatly weaker than 8 especially without a brace connecting it all together
