^^^ I know for a fact if the tv cable is not hooked up or not correctly adjusted in a street vehicle it will burn up the trans quickly.. It controls line pressure and other things.. From 1-R I really dont know if that will effect it or not.. I ran a box gm in the mid 90's with no computer but cable was still hooked up.. I would keep searching around until you find good definitive answers first.. Ymmv..

Not hooking up the tv cable will be minimum line pressure, good for idle, not so good at wot.

I didn't mess with the tv cable in an 86 caprice. After 5 minutes throttle got stuck around 3k, and by the grace of God the 700r4 hung on another 15 minutes for the win. Got 3rd at the next derby too. Maybe it was already set right? Sure surprised me how it held up.

Anyone run a th475? I understand they have straight cut planetary gears. Also heard they have a low 1st gear. If that's true would it be best to run shifter so it goes to 2nd instead of 1st gear? Running 9" rear with 5.11 gear full spool and 15" skids for rear tires. Thanks.

Some HD 400's had straight cut gears for more strength, but the gear ratio is the same.

Ya th475 with straight cut planetary gears. Found mostly in motor homes. They had a emergency/parking brake integrated into tailshaft/yoke.

I was going to go to the motorhome but couldn't remember for sure. When I order parts for those they are just listed as a 400. For all derby purposes its a 400 just figure a different tail housing I think the shafts are the same spline.
