No notching is going to be done. unless you set the assend really high it'll plow without a notch(and then there is still a chance)....BUT your doghouse will be ripped apart with the back set high and the front level/low. I've seen it wayyy too many times.

theres usually a hole in the center of the hump on each side. i run a long bolt thru it, put a large washer on the wheel side, then run the chain from one side to the other between the humps. then i suck the chain as tight as possible. Alright, we'll try it. Thanks No notching is going to be done. unless you set the assend really high it'll plow without a notch(and then there is still a chance)....BUT your doghouse will be ripped apart with the back set high and the front level/low. I've seen it wayyy too many times. Well, I'm pretty confident about how were setting up the rear. But I guess we'll find out a month from now. I'll post befores and afters.

Im running a 78 caprice...my rules say four points to tie down hood...so I am running all thread through core support and in middle of hood through fenders...and then use hood hinges for the rear...my question is ditch springs on hinges or leave them?...will they bind up once things start bending?

Ditch the springs, hell take the hood off the hinges and weld the hinges into the fender. That way when everything gets bent to hell you can just pull the hood OFF in stead of trying to mess with getting it back down to match the all thread holes and what not.

I would highly recommend notching your frame rails on these style of cars. They are designed to go down in impact situations. I ran a single notch last year and it folded at notch and then pushed right in - blowing out humps. This year I'm doing the double notch method. Seems to be working already. If notching wagon, make 100% sure you cut all body ribbing where your notches are.

derbyguy13, you can prevent that by removing the bumper shocks and replacing them with 5/8 round tubing and/or hardnosing straight to the frame.

Well, plan have changed.. It's getting pre-bent, and it'll be single notched.

I'm running my 77 impala again a week from tomorrow. The rules let us run chains around the axle and hump this year. I was wondering how much it will help and how low you would sit the rear. I have it triple notched which is probably over killll but didn't want it to go down. The rear bent perfect at the first notch last year on its first run.

A double notch is plenty enough. I would chain the humps together. Run a bolt through frame with big spacer on outside of humps and then tighten chain up. I don't see how you could chain to the axle to prevent blowing out. Unless you chain driver side hump to the passenger side of the differential and opposite on other side. If you can run that chain from hump - to - hump it will prevent from blowing out into your tires.

Can't run chain from side to side only around axle.
