Dean 88 I imagine most of my competitors will either hardnose or use the flatbar rule. Most will be in mid 70s fords, shockers, and a few olds and chevys. This is the first year for this ruleset.
Mn13, after I read this I contacted the promoter and asked him about it. How I interpreted the rule was the way I said. And the stock bumper brackets on a caddy sit about 2-3 inches above the frame. Also, If I run anything with a less point than my new yorker pointy I will be using the 6x6 tubing because my mopar flats and monte bumpers Ill run on my fords.
Demoboy333 I would agree, IMO itd be harder to do though. Plus I dont want to ruin my good mopar flats on the front of this caddy.

^im with ya. I've broke plenty of axles and steering components with gran fury and Newport flats and 76 Monte bumpers. I like pointys dont get me wrong but they have a time and place and dont belong on every build. In my opinion and the way I build, your questioning it this much even with advice. I'd say your better off finding a bumper your confident, is gonna hold and then ya dont have to worry. I feel like the pointy would hold up to the car better than the 6x6 would. But this is the first time weve been allowed to run a homemade bumper

No way id pick a 3/16 tube over pointy. 3/16 tube on anything remotely hard will buckle like you wouldnt believe.

It cant be skinned but yes, regular bumper can only be seam welded. My understanding is that brackets must match car or bumper
If I had a 75/6 cadi and was to run the pointy I'd get creative and run flat bar mount myself, argue your mounting points and see what is said at the show. Being the biggest show in the area I think there will be fair solutions and no one will want to be sent home.
Imo worst thing you can do is warn/let then think about your idea ahead of time

If I did the flat bar I wouldnt use just plain jane mild steel, I'd spend the money and get T1.

RUNNING A POINTY ON AN ONLY SEAM WELDED FRAME IS GUARANTEED TO NOSE IT UP QUICKLY...... RUN A 74 IMPALA HARD NOSED TO THE FRAME, THAT WILL SLOW IT DOWN A BIT.... IVE BUILT 7 CADDIES, ALL 75 AND 76, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW KNOW.... WEVE RUN 74 IMPALA FRONTS, POINTIES, 75 MONTE FRONTS AND STOCK CADDY BUMPERS CUT DOWN.....DITCH THE HIGH BRACKETS FOR SURE AND WITHOUT WELDING THE Y"S CLOSED, YOU HAD BETTER RETHINK YOUR BUMPER CHOICE.....

Also we can put aluminum backed skins on the 6x6

Thats what Ive worried about but I dont have any other options besides the 6x6.... Our heats are only about 5 mins long and its one of those shows where if your car will run past 3 mins youre almost guaranteed to make it to the main. Then you get a 6x6x1/8 plate to repair after every run

First time building a caddy, what do you think about a fabricated pointy (amish built) on the front but I'm allowed 3/8" plate from a arm to bumper? Similar to BB rules... is it gonna dump behind the a arm quickly with that heavy of a bumper?

Are you allowed trans braces steel tail steel bell full engine protector? If your not allowed all that it'll go behind a arms pretty quick but since your allowed that much plate I sure would assume you can run protectors

Yes, I would do it. If it’s like BB rules you’ll be good. We have a circle z on our 75 fleetwood and a ski on our 71
