So I’m allowed to beat the side of the hump in (peen the hump) but I’m sitting here debating on whether it helps or hurts the car. This would be done on my 76 caddy. What does it actually structurally do? Generally when you start beating and stretching metal it weakens it? So what’s best pick an answer and let me know your thoughts, thanks.

Generally when you start stretching metal and tightening it it strengthens it. Same thing that creasing body panels does. But I have no advice for a 76 caddy lol

I peened the humps on my 76 caddy in 2013,built the trunk soft, and the humps kinked down...maybe I peened them in to much..but if you do,be careful..maybe just a slight massage on the tire side will keep the outer layer from blowing

I’m not using stock a arms or spindles, using 70’s ford a arms and spindles to gain height but thank you, did you short trunk that car?

Tucked it,then cut the quarters and folded them to the trunk lid...if you looked at the car from the side it looked like " L "...not sure if that makes since

Sorry should have clarified, what you are describing is what we call short trunking, only difference is that we fold quarters first then bring the trunk lid down over.

My opinion is there is a fine line between peening, crease enhancing, and simply beating the snot out of your car and making it way to weak in the process. If done properly with some thought and precision it helps. 75% of the people doing it only make their car weak but predictable. Afterwards they claim "look how nice it packed in". Predictable doesn't necessarily mean hard. Just my opinion. As far as humps are concerned. A little crease enhancement is beneficial. Beating your humps to death is not. Again. Just my opinion.

If you remove the trunk lid and notch the crap out if a car it is pretty dam predictable. But hard? Definitely not.

I agree stormi, I’m thinking just a slight hump enhancement, going to short trunk and pre bend, allowed to change body mounts to 1 inch allthread, can have 2 pieces going throught trunk lid, adding allthread right where trunk 90’s to help hold everything together.
