I see what your saying. Next question, how the hell does that happen? How does the cradle/block break pulling it off the trailer and driving it to the track? That’s unbelievable to me.

Ya I watched the vid again. by no means am I saying it’s not possible but that’s just mind boggling to me how that would happen but it’s possible for sure. That would have changed how the car held up

I haven’t followed the thread real close and haven’t watched all the videos but I did see your recent pictures of the aftermath. Is the DP tied solid to the firewall?

As with most things, the loose motor was a result of a combination of things happening. Frame flex, deficiencies in the 1st gen Hoffmeister craddle, frame gave in several spots, and some hard hits in both runs. The lower craddle was also used in the first run. We haven't pulled the motor yet to see what else might have happened, but my first thought is the lower craddle had a crack in the weld. Passenger side weld on part of the craddle broke and motor mount to engine block bolts sheared off. This allowed the passenger side of the motor to shift forward about 4" in the end, bending the driver side mount. The pulley protector and front plate also pulled away from lower craddle (bent and did not shear 1/2" bolts). How do 3 pieces of 1/2" plate bolted together with 1/2" bolts bend? Severe pressures and hard hits against some other well built cars.
This movement punched a fist-sized hole in the oil pan and broke the starter. So, as we all say, something has to give and it did, but it was unusual. 88S, you did an outstanding job building and driving this car. The car held up awesome, especially for a light weld build. You gave and took some hard hits, never backed down, and went up against several seasoned drivers and outlasted most of them! The videos and pictures don't do these past 2 runs justice. You have nothing to be ashamed of and I'm proud of you son. We had some fun, no one got hurt, and we learned a few things. Also met some good people and formed a few new friendships. For us, that's what it's all about.

Was at that Davenport derby. Didnt know you were there til I saw this thread. Noticed the motor flopping around real bad. Saw way too many nose to nose hits with other Caddies but hey, yall had fun.
Nice build, nice thread. Keep it up.

Thanks bud, ya the motor wasn’t happy after that heat, wasn’t much I could do about the nose to nose shot but no real winner when caddies go nose to nose, all 3 bent

I’d love to go nose to nose one of his imps. Be interesting to see what would happen plus I think I could get my caddy higher in the front

Time to tear it apart. Good time to look things over and learn a few things. Motor should be fine. Only ran 2 minutes with intermittent oil pressure.
