Are these trucks tough? I have one that I plan on running in a wire derby. Is it worth building?

I'm running a 98 Dodge right now, it is welded up, but I have seen a lot of stock Dodge's run the past couple years and they are still going, they hold up nice if the frame is in good shape.

Any more info on these? I have a 99 half ton I'm running in a fairly stock derby. Anything major problems that need to be addressed? Can I get away with running stock axles? Any problems with steering? Are the front ends as good they look? Going to swap bumpers, weld doors and box all up, drop in sbc. Not allowed to weld anything to frame. Not a whole lot of info on these year trucks on here.

Any advice for Boscobel rules? true, depends on if it was a diesel or gas truck also to what frame and body design changed in 2001 and 2002.My uncle has a 2002 dodge sport diesel 6spd 4wd single wheel 3500 that's the 94 to 01 body style and frame,he ordered brand new from Brindley motors.IMO I would go with the 94 on up style for a stock build type derby or the old square body 1971 and older dodges are bad ass too.

I have seen some 02 3/4 ton and 1 tons that are on the newer style 03 frame but with the old 2nd gen body. Rolled off the lot like that.

I love these trucks they hold up very well in limited weld trucks. I've ran this one 3 times so far and she's still pretty straight. They do start to belly out depending how your allowed to do your roll bar. My front end has not bent yet and im running a 5x5 3/8 inch price of square tubing.

Would you happen to have any pics on how to mount a sbc in one of these? Started on my 99 half ton today and was kinda stumped as to how I'm going to mount one in there. Its a stock show so it has to stay simple. I cant go to overboard on any thing. Any tips or help would be amazing. This is my first try at putting a chevy engine in anything other than a chevy.

Most likely going to have to weld a plate on the cross member and put chevy mounts off of the plates

Crossmember is way different. Can't just put a plate on it. I did a little fabing and got my 350 in there. Wasn't to hard. The way the engines are mounted in these dodges is weird.

Depends on the rules. I built a 99 half ton that I will be running on Saturday in a stock show. It's completely stock with chevy drive train. It looks super good for a stock show. Stock shows I would choose the 98. Built shows I would probably go with the 60s. Both seem to be really good trucks tho. I'll see how mine does in 2 days.

Well, didn't get to run my stock 99 half ton last weekend. Ended up getting loaded. I was told my half ton had too big of a frame. They voted me out. I guess I'll have to see how it does on the 7th of August.
