i have been searching and haven't found much but was wondering if when building a leaf pack is it best to build a long set that goes to the end of the frame or is it better for the pack to be short in length?

Short and flat stacked. The body/frame will pack up to where the shackles are. Notching or dimpling the frame that is past rear shackle is key. Long leaf sets will be prone to whale tail.

All depends why kind of car you have. Some you want to build so they wad up. Some , especially the clean ones, you can make the rear as strong if not stronger than the front. The short will keep the humps while letting everything pack in. But if a hard hit on fresh sheet metal could send it down. The long keeps the rear straight longer set keeps it straighter a bit longer but does make it go straight up. But with halos and other rules that help you can double the strength of any given car. All depends on rules and how you build. One build with long leafs I did was 5 stock arch, staggered, 4 clamps each, and had to be stock car type widths. Car still had have a little bounce so only could chain humps. Only got 2 runs out of it but wrap the rear bumper around the shocks before it whale tailed. And that happened because the clamps slid forward.

Whale tail is when the trunk and frame rails stay pretty well straight. And goes up at a 90▪ a truck won't whale tail. But the frame may give out behind the cab. In your case swap in 3/4 or one ton springs. Stock arch clamped good. Trucks are usually pretty set in the back. You may want to check the truck build forum. To set the front end up. Or they will eat ya up

I think those are 3" wide, most rules only allow 2.5".
We got some 48"x2.5" from either a newer body style S-10 (94?+) or some type of import truck. Can't remember exactly. Sorry.
