THanks for the comment. I’ve never ran a spool. I’ve always welded gears. I just am looking for a better choice to go. Didn’t know if they held up better or not. (New to this whole spool idea)

Like said before, a spool and gears are two different things. For dependability, you replace the carrier with a spool. For performance, you change your gear ratio. They do not go hand in hand.

Think he’s talking about (spider gears), although I may be wrong. In my personal opinion I’d rather weld the spiders for what we do and spend the money on a good ratio ring and pinion (gears) rather than a spool. It’s all in what your comfortable with and obviously your budget.

Sorry for the mishap. Yes when I said gears I meant spider gears. Gear wise I run 4.56 but I mostly run figure 8s on wet tacky tracks Every once in awhile in mudd pits haha. Sorry for the mess up but yes just was looking for some pros and cons

Wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good set of gears. 25 inch skids, dirt track that’s fairly hard packed, 5.3 ls and 350 tranny. Other than that it’s going in a Fullsize Olds. TIA

4.10s if it's a large track with out a packed amount of cars, 4.56s if it's a smaller track or if it's packed with cars.

Looking for advice on gear selection. I'm running mild weld type classes have a basically stock 350,summit 1103 cam and a 2barrel, it's healthy but not BUILT lol and a th350 trans. Running a 14bolt rear and plan to run 25-27" skids, I'd say I run mostly medium size tracks that are pretty tacky. It has a 373 in it now I was thinking 456:1???

4.56 is a pretty good all around gear.

I'd say a little more. 5.13's would be the ticket.

I think 456 are good for an average weld car. However a super heavy cage, braced 8 lug rear, and a heavy car like a wagon or Caddy a 513 is better to move all that extra weight. JMO
