Thanks redneck. Would a 4.10 be enough for a small track with a mild 302 with aod trans and 27-8.50-15 skidsteers and it's a 31 spline rear. I like a lot of gear so if it was me I'd say no. But everyone is different. I am also running a 302/aod combo and have 5.83's in a 9" with 14" tires.

I've got 4.30s in my 02 Vic with the factory 8.8 (can't swap the rearends) and with 23 8.50 14s it's awfully low geared. Considering putting 25s on it. Engine loves the rpms but you can't only turn a 377 to 8-9 grand for so long

I have a 78 thunder chicken with what I assume is a 9 inch, I was just curious what I need to know before starting. I've always ran gm rear ends,,, when I pull out the carrier Are the spider gears easy to get to or am I going to run Into problems like I did when I welded the rear on a 68 Caddy?
Thanks boys

Thanks boys yep it has a 9" 28 spline axles and yes welding the spiders on a 9 is almost impossible. good news is a spool is dirt cheap for a 9" a full spool from quick performance is $68.

you can pop the carrier apart and weld one up pretty easy but gotta get it setup back to the same.

Another easy way it to just cut the back of the housing, tack it, and pull it apart. I've done it a few times, works good.

Lol I've ran 8.8s without the cover. I loaded the bearings up with grease and let it go. After 7 runs in a ranger, I scrapped the truck. Bearings werent the best but not much play in them.

I just bust the carrier apart and throw the small spider gears away......weld the two spiders with the axle splines straight to the carrier.... But yes 9 inches take twice as long as a rearend such as an 8.8 or 8.5

How is everyone doing floaters? Not the same as a 10 bolt is it?
