Okay i changed set ups and it feels like i cant get any speed. I have a 10 bolt 28 spline with 456 gears i used to run 29 in tires but changed to 14 in rims with 23 inch tires and feel like i cant get any speed. The motor i run is pretty built with a stock turbo 350. I run small to medium sized tracks usually a little muddy or wet. What should i do?

I have the option to get a full spool w/ 5.89 gears for the right price. I know these gears a pretty high but would they be worth running or just stay with the stock gears in the rear? The car is a 60's suicide Lincoln w/ stock ford 302 and AOD trans. I use 7.00x15 trailer tires, the tracks I derby on are small and good traction, wet race track so it is like an ice rink, and sandy rodeo arena.

In the rodeo arena Id say "No way Jose"
From the other info though I wouldnt be too scared of em, gotta be better than your stock gears.

Thats dropping your gear ratio significantly. Is your motor revving higher?

Looks like the gears are 5.43 There is white marker that says 5.89 but the numbers on the ring gear point to 5.43

Can someone tell me what vehicles have a 4,56 or 4.88 gear for an 8.8? You won't find that much gear in any production car with a 8.8 in it. 4.10 will be about it.

Thanks redneck. Would a 4.10 be enough for a small track with a mild 302 with aod trans and 27-8.50-15 skidsteers and it's a 31 spline rear.

I got 4:56 gears off eBay for about $150 a few years ago. Definitely can feel them back there. Make sure your motor can handle the Rpms. The ring gear is huge and rubbed a hole in the rear cover. I welded it closed. You can find 4:10 gears from some explorers and Rangers.
