Planning on running a 76 impala for a stock show. I have a 73 impala, and a 74 impala also. Out of the 3 which one assuming everything is perfect would have the best rearend? or are they all the same?

Out of the 3 which one assuming everything is perfect would have the best rearend? or are they all the same? by "rearend" do you mean actual rearend/gears/axles etc or by "rearend" do you mean rear frame and trunk? As far as rearends you are more than likely going to have the exact same 10 bolt c-clip rearends in each, with some exceptions, and will have a 2:73 gear. Really no difference unless one happens to be a bolt in, but I doubt it. As far as the trunks, rear frame, ect goes, 73 is weakest (c-channel from just behind the humps to the back bumper). 74 and 76 are almost identical, only real difference in the rear bumper. Only real question is how clean are they comparitively, 4dr, 2dr, glasshouse, post, no post?

sorry I shouldve specified I meant the "rearend" rearend. I know the frame rails are different, and luckily we can notch them. I figured id just leave the 76 with the stock rearend but i didnt know if maybe the 74, or 73 had some special bolt in axle rearend or something.

Have been seeing the term flat leafing thrown around on here lately and wondering what the benefits are and kinda the basics of how to do it. Thanks.

i've had my eye on a 74-75 pontiac catalina 2 door... looked around and havent found any info on here. how do they compare to other mid 70's GMs. sorry if its an ignorant question, i'm not really a gm guy and it would be my first old iron. fyi can weld doors, trunk, bumper, four point cage with tank protector and halo. 2 hood pins with 6 spots of wire. there will probably be plenty of sub imps and maybe a fullframer or 2 as well that i would be up against.

What are the differences between the different makes of gm sedans.
Impala/caprice
Buick
Olds
Pontiac
Just curious as to whats the positives and negatives of each of them.
are there any certain years that are bad.

The BOP frames have the hole in the sides of the frame in front of the a arms just behind the bumper. It will bend there if not filled in with plate. I know people have said in the past on here Chevy has superior core supports. They all have different bumper brackets, Pontiac and Buick brackets tend to make the bumper roll down unless flipped, than they roll up. The Chevy bumpers have cups, which seems to be a much more effective mounting method. Some Buick 225s and Olds 98s have the tow package option.

I had great luck with my 75 4-door catalina. Ran against some very hard fords with it and it held its own. You should be fine if you take the time to do the little things to help it out. I would advise a dimple or notch to the rear though. Also if you can I'd hardnose a 76 impala bumper on the front. Just my opinion though Bart 2525

ok so i just read the 74-76 gm sedan tips and couldnt really find my answer. So the car is pre-ran front bumper rollled up, didnt bend the frame just mangled the mounts. The passenger side rear hump has a slight kink due to a full track weird shot. Before i ran it this past year i had the rear chained down about 2-3in and the front a-arms welded so the front was set up higher. So my question is should i get the front up a little higher and get the rear higher as well? basically get it even but have the rear setting a little lower than the front. I got a chance of getting some 30in tall mud tires theyre 9 in wide, so big but not to big. Any help would be awesome.. We can use plate metal and its a full weld show.

Full size, maybe someone more knowledgeable on the situation can give you info on the bumper, I would take it to a show where welding can be done.
