You can't get too crazy with the crossmember with out a brace or you will break the trans. Just get it as tight to the tunnel as you can(don't smash the vent), and back of engine as tight to the firewall as possible. Probably need to be more worried about in front of the towers than behind them though.

I always just pushed the cradle tight to the firewall and left the trans on rubber mounts with a chain around it, you wouldn't believe how hard a fox is with just a well pressured cradle/cage,out of 6 fox cars I've built only 1 ever bent in the tunnle area.... and it wasn't my bash car lol

Is it worth putting a dp on the engine (3.8 essex) since it cannot be pushed up against the fire wall to start?

If it were a different motor I would say leave the "dp" off and put the cage right to the back of the motor. Done that with out issue with the 2.3L. Not sure if that would go well with aluminum heads. Running a trans brace? If it doesn't specify, keep the cage 1" off the motor but suck the trans up tight to it. With a good crossmember it should keep the nose down for awhile.

For just a lower cradle with pulley protector are you guys pushing engines back as for as you can to firewall with say a couple inch gap, or mounting in the rough stock spot? (2.3 engine)

If I remember right it was pretty close to being an issue but I don't think the pics do justice of how FUBARed that car was.

Slider is on my to-do list, but thus far, I have not lost a drive shaft in a fox....4 hatch Mustangs, a 4 door Fairmont and a 4 door Granada. The latter 2 were just as boned in the back as jives' 4 door above.

It's possible I've just been lucky, but to their credit, they hold together pretty good in the belly area.
