On the old 80s square body Cavaliers do you have to leave the dash and cluster in for it to run does it have theft mode just like the bubbles?

So there is nothing you have to worry about when your stripping them? Obviously, there is going to be wiring you need. Some of it will be in the dash area. But you don't need the instrument cluster and shouldn't have to worry about anti theft. With the bubble body, the anti theft does run through the instrument cluster.

Hi guys I have done a lot of searching on here and can't seem to figure out why my 98 sunfire with a 2200 won't start. The car is a preran car and I had it running about a month and a half ago. I brought the car back into the garage to do a couple things to it and when I went to start it all it does is crank and acts like it wants to start by firing. I have spark and fuel injector pulse. The GM anti-theft was disabled before the first run. Please help I am hoping to run this car this weekend the 24th of Feb...

Make sure to recheck all the ground connections, had a car do this to me as well when i was prepping it, turns out I had a ground connection come undone under the steering wheel.. good luck, keep us posted.

The only thing I have changed was disconnecting the fuel pump to fix the fuel cell. So I am trying to use a fuel can with my pump in it but instead of grounding the fuel pump to the body I am grounding it to the battery. Before when I had the fuel pump grounded to the body the hot wired got really hot and started melting does that seem like something that would mean I need to figure out another ground?

I run my pump ground directly to the negative on the battery, Not sure why your ground was getting hot..maybe too thin of wiring?

Also don't be afraid to put a inline fuse in the power line to the pump, in case of power overload or shorting out it could save your pump and some $

It wasn't the ground that was getting hot it was the positive wire. I am headed out to the garage here in a couple minutes. I am going to try adding some grounds and see if that fixes my problem. Thanks

Thanks Ok gotcha, sorry read that wrong. If the power wire was getting hot im betting that a thicker wire should do some good, nice clean ground connections and you should be in good shape.. good luck 👍

The wires and the fuel pump have been replaced and it still acts the same way. I am running to the parts store to get some new spark plugs. I have been informed that these motors are very picky on there plugs and a fouled out plug will cause it to backfire.
