What would be good to replace my rear trailing arms on 73 impala with a 10 bolt. I was hit in rear shifted whole axle 4 inches.

I have an 89 caprice for a stock class. It has the 7.5 rear would it be worth swapping for a 74 impala rear that is also c clip? I'm sure it's be better to but 100% better? 10%? .000001%? Jw

Ok i have a coil spring 12 bolt bia ive counted the splines its a 31 spline now im wondering what it takes and cost to eitherr make a hybrid 10/12 or can i buy 12 bolt truck gears and turn them down on the mill and will a truck pinion gear fit in the housing. I cannot seem to find the easiest most cost effective route

I cannot seem to find the easiest most cost effective route If you get side gears out of a 10/12 c clip rear or buy a hybrid spool you can put your 12 bolt BIA axles in a 10 bolt BIA rear.

If you cant find any other 71-76 GM arms you could use some 80s crown vic arms. However the uppers need reinforced with a minium of a big washer welded to the end. The ends like to rip right off. JMO

So a buddy of mine asked to borrow a rearend from me to give his(my old car) a final hoorah. Long story short when he got the car it had a buick 10 bolt housing with 31 spline c-clip axles. Came factory like that so gearing was 2.15 or close to that. Now the rearend he borrowed from me was just a plain old 10 bolt I was and going to brace up spline count to 12 bolts and get away from 2:86. Well I told him he was better off with the 31 splines then my ten bolt but he wanted better gearing, I feel the buick 10/12 is stronger then my 10 bolt bia. What are your Thoughts on this situation?

It might be a little stronger axle wise, but at least with the bolt ins if you break an axle it won't fall out and you can keep going.

Are either one of them BIA or are they both c clip rears? Your post is confusing.

The BIA is always better. Keep the side gears out of the 12 bolt c clipper before you throw it in the scrap pile. Then all you need is some 12 bolt BIA axles to make a decent rear.

Exactly the plan along with bracing and pinion brake, so I can run my 12 inch rims with forklift tires
