I am fairly certain about 95% sure that you can take backing plates from a c-clip to a bolt in with no problems. If you look at the backing plate for a c-clip the hole is bigger than is needed on a c-clip. I am pretty sure I have done this before.

Any one know if backing plates off a c clip rear will fit a bia rear? I know I'll have to dremel out the hole for the bearing to fit through but wondering if the bolt pattern is the same for bolting the backing plate to axle tube. Bia is out of a 76 Buick I believe and backing plates would be coming off a 77 caddy Thanks! I used the backing plates from a 76 impala 10 bolt c clip rear end on a 75 Buick 10 bolt BIA with no issues they bolted up fine no modfications needed bearing opeing was the same size on both backing plates

The hole for the bearing is to small on the backing plates. If I trim er out some it should bolt on.. I'll let everyone know if it works, out

Can I take the yoke off a metric 10 bolt and put it on my 70s impala rearend which is also 10 bolt. Trying not to add slider in a limited weld car. Trying use stock drive shaft that is attached to the 700r4. Guess you could say I'm lazy and a cheap ass.

I have a chevy 10 bolt and am lookin for some new axles for it, but I'm having some trouble finding any. The axles are 31 spline, and 31 3/8" long. It's a 8.5" housing, with a strange full spool in it. I bought it set up, I'm not sure what exactly he did. My question is with it being 31 splines is it a 12 bolt axle then? Will the guts fit from a 12 bolt into a 10 bolt housing, or did he use a conversion spool to go from 10 bolt gears to I2 bolt axles?

^^^ it is a 12 bolt axle. No the guts wont fit a 10 bolt. Yes it is a conversion spool so u can gear up 31 spline axles with 8.5 gears. Gears for 12 bolt these axles come from are not available. Post in parts wanted thread to find more 31 bia,s.

Can I use a truck rear end (has a twelve bolt cover) and change gears in it and then weld on brackets from and old roundback rear end and then put this in a 75 Pontiac round back or am I missing something?

U should have no problems welding leaf brackets to a truck 12 bolt for gear change. 12 bolt truck rears have 30 spline axles the roundback should have 31. The 31,s can be put in a 8.5 10 bolt if u use the side spider gears from wagon rear welded into the 8.5 carrier. Just another option.

Thanks for the help on that. I think I will explore both options. I will get ahold of raporfab and see whats available for truck rear end and also source spool for the 8.5. I have lots of parts and old derby cars.

I have lots of parts and old derby cars. All leaf wagon rearends that i,ve come across have c-clip 31 axles so full spool isn,t an option. The side spiders do fit in a 8.5 carrier if u grind down the 12 n 6 o,clock or top n bottom teeth down. I built one of these "hybrids" for cheap.

I have a 71 or 2 olds round back with bolt in axles. Have welded the spiders but axles still good. Probably try that .
