Had a guy told me to press the clutch in on a manual before you hit, any truth or reasoning to this?

Of course. Alot easier on trans, drive shaft, and rear end when you take the torque of the engine off of them.

I keep the right foot down and the left foot out of the way when it stops moving then let up but that’s just how I drive. You will find your own driving pattern

If you want to keep your engine running when you hit, that’s what you do. It comes naturally.
