Rules. You can run a thick case transmission, you can run an engine cradle like A2Z. No mid plate, no DP. So technically you can still lock a car. 2x2 square tubing for a transmission cross member.
The rule change is. No after market lower motor mounts. Must be an OEM lower mount to the car you are running. ( old iron GM ). Looking for a grey area for this scenario, would it even be possible to lock a car with stock lower motor mounts ripping out. The answer would be no, you can not. Lol if anyone has a solution to my question and would like to share it with me, send a PM.
Thanks, Shawn.

Back when we used to run a OLD school DP. And a lower cradle nothing tied together we always welded strap over the stock motor mounts just up and over. Worked pretty dang well... Trashed them but never lost a motor... Buy OEM mounts not new shit from parts store

Easy, weld the cradle to the engine cross member, doesn’t say how the motor has to be mounted. Rob golden makes a bad ass cradle that’s technically designed for sbc to go in mopars but works extremely well in caddies and gm’s

Crazy, I bought a XXX cradle back in 2011. Didn’t know they were still making them. When the rules officially come out, I will have to see how it reads if I go down that path. Right now all I know what is changing is by word of mouth. Thanks for a potential option. 🤙🏻

Can easily modify your cradle to mimic it as well.

You can weld a strap on the backside of the mount with a little fab work. Without a midplate or DP though I'd be pretty careful how hard your locking them in or if you would even want to weld it in. Old school stock mounts you can fill with polyurethane to stiffen them up and keep them stock appearing.
Even with a Reid or JW case still puts alot of pressure on trans (I've seen those cases break too although much much less frequently) and I've seen probably 20 broken blocks this year without a midplate and an aftermarket case, Stock, Dart, etc.

I’ve got a buddy that came up with an idea by making “ spark plug protectors,”that tie into the back of the heads and to the transmission. I’ve yet to see the design, said he ran all year, last year without busting any blocks, and he pressures every thing in from the beginning. I haven’t had any issues yet, but I do know the risks, and roll the dice. Lol I’ve been running a couple reed thick case power glides. About 5-6 inches shorter than a 400. Allowed 2, 6 inch by 1/4 inch 3x3 angle to tie into the cross member. 👍🏻

Not all cradles are built the same. I say build a piece off your cradle to lock around the engine cross member. And use the factory mount to hold the engine down still. This not allowing it to go forward or backwards.

On the stock motor mount topic… 03+ ford motor mounts on SBC or LS… any info how they hold up on the 4.6 in a “windshield class” demo?
