To achieve 500 hp out of a small block, its going to take more than a cam. Everything must go together ,pistons & heads. A LS you can get close to that with just a cam swap.

It’d be a bored 30 over 307 with a 3.25 stroke and 165ss heads

It’d be a bored 30 over 307 with a 3.25 stroke and 165ss heads Not the displacement, nor the heads to make 500 horse. Dart 165SS flow less then a stock 882 head. Probably a better port and chamber design, but still not a very high flowing head. Even so, a 307 can turn higher RPMs, and is a great heat motor depending on the casting, but you should reset your power expectation. Still can be a great motor.

This question makes me giggle. Horsepower does not and will not, ever win you a derby. Much other important aspects to worry about. I also hope you have the rotating assembly built loose and its not a fresh new none clearanced engine or you're going to very disappointed 5 minutes after you lose the water.

End of the night its all about who keeps the wheels moving anyway. But I'm washed up what do I know lol

Maybe don’t need 500 horse outta it just some higher rpm

Maybe don’t need 500 horse outta it just some higher rpm To put it in perspective. A bone stock Chrysler 318 is capable of turning 6000rpm- 6250rpm. Really no need for anymore than that. Vortec heads are fine if they aren't cracked and you don't crack them when your running it with no water as they are prone to cracking. I prefer mopars but my sbc set up that was a top 3 engine every time I ran it was a 86 305h.o out of a monte carlo ss. Had camel back heads and a comp 268 cam. 200,000+ miles. Stock crank stock bore stock rods and wrist pins. Aluminum air gap intake and 600 edelbrock 4 barrel. Thing ran hot forever. Simplicity is key. No need to go hogg wild. Stick to the basics. A loose engine is a happy engine when its fighting heat expansion. Gain your rpm from a low gear set
