What is all needed to be done to build a th400 that will only have 1st and reverse gears

Just build a stop to keep it from going in to park. Turn the stop when you put it on the trailer and at home so you don’t run someone over

I don’t think it matters but I don’t know. I never ran a kick down. I also don’t run a automatic very often.

A stock 400 will automatically shift to second at a certain RPM. There are ways around it. I never cared. I’ve always ran them in stock form even if rebuilt. You can have them built to only have first and reverse. That requires a rebuild.

I always wanted mine to hit 2nd especially when you couldnt get the skinny pedal shoved far enough through the firewall. And I ran 4.56 gears so 1st gear alone was to short for how big our tracks are around me. 2nd gear was needed
