Good question. Sadly, this sight kinda "died." I made a post similar to this probably 3-4 years ago and people jumped on me saying if I didn't like it, don't come here then. Ironically, I'd been on here longer than most of them put together. I know you've been here a long time too. I think a lot of the long time guys still get on, but never post. I saw it begin to go down hill when a flood of new members started logging on and asked the same questions over and over obviously without doing any research of their own because it was pretty basic stuff that had been covered like a dead body. Then, when they didn't hear the answer they wanted to hear, they got smart. That's when the veterans clammed up I think.
There are a lot of Fakebook pages for derby now too, and I can only imagine the younger guys are using that because there's more people on that platform, thus quicker responses, and pictures are so much easier..... Remember, it was ALL about pictures.... "How do you do this? Don't explain it in words, I need a picture!" No imagination. No willingness to just look at what you're working on and figure it out...
The mass migration to Facebook has impacted a lot of forum sites for hobbies. I've watched the number of people posting here on WeCrash dwindle over the years. I'm also a member of a forum dedicated to steam and gas engines, tractors and all kinds of antique equipment that has seen a similar trend of people asking questions and selling items on Facebook because of the higher amount of traffic and quicker responses. I have been on both platforms, but I must say that the old forums make things a lot easier to find. If I am looking for tips for the 58-64 Fords, WeCrash has a lot more information all in one spot than I could find on Facebook and I could find it a lot easier here IMO. A simple Google search or even a search on the website itself will bring up lots of information that has been kept in the archives. I think these forum platforms are great when it comes to following a build or restoration. While FB can get you quicker responses, I seem to come back to the old forum platforms because all of the information has been saved here and is relatively easy to find.
