I’m looking at buying a 1989 Toyota pickup 4x4 5 speed manual from a buddy of mine. I was wondering how they hold up. Is there anything specific I should do to it? Any weak spots? Any help would be appreciated.

^Ditto. Not saying they are junk for derby because I have no idea, but I think there is something to be said that I've never seen one ran.

Rust, small unboxed chassis, tend to have ball joint issues just driving down the road. they’re really narrow trucks and the 4x4 models sit up too high for my liking. X3 to sell to an off-road Toyota guy.

Toyota frames are fully boxed, except very back where bumper mounts

Toyota frames are fully boxed, except very back where bumper mounts Exactly why they rust behind the cab. The dirt and moisture get trapped in there and can't work or dry out like most C- channel truck frames.
