I set my motor and trans in slid it as close to the firewall as possible and welded motor mounts. If I remember correctly the trans crossmember is pretty close to lining up to the trans mount. If I were to install another 4.3 in another exploder I would use an oil filter relocation kit, the stock filter sits kind of close to the suspension.

Your '96 engine has the Vortec heads with the fewer intake bolts, so carburetor intakes are harder to come by / more expensive. The older intakes were easy to adapt to carb, the Vortecs "spider" injection manifolds would require quite a bit of work. I bought the Edelbrock 2114 for mine. $275 I would've liked to spend elsewhere.
Also, if you buy headers for it, watch the location of the temp sending unit holes and plugs - they're in a different spot than the earlier heads, requiring modification to the header flange, or attention paid when building the header. DEC made the headers for me, but had to flip the flanges over for clearance.
the '98 1500 truck my engine came from had a block mounted filter similar to a small block chevy. My 2000 Blazer has a remote mounted filter
I'm going to run a turbo 350 also - the torque converter bolt pattern is different between the Vortec motor and an old school small block so you have to make sure the flex plate will work with the torque converter. I got lucky - I am using the original flexplate, the torque converter that came with my trans has both bolt patterns on it.
