so I recently got a 2001 mercury grand marquis with 200,000 miles on it. I've heard mixed opinions on using heavier oil for engines with more mileage and I'm going to be racing it. not running it in a demo so it's going to be HOT all season. the factory oil is 5W-20. should I go heavier? I'm definitely going to use synthetic

I'd go with 5w30, just because bearing clearances are probably on the bigger side. Also, change the oil after every race. It's probably going to cut through the viscosity quickly.

My buddy has 300k on his truck with a modular motor and it's only had 5w30 it's entire life. I've seen guys run 10w40 in them with no problems in ranch trucks.
