I've broken two crown Vic steering boxes. I was thinking about trying to mount a 90s chevy pickup steering box on the frame to try. I saw that they sell an adapter plate to run a chevy impala steering box on a crown Vic. If I did this and bought a remanufactured one would it be better? Also will the ford pitman arm fit the chevy steering box or do I have to buy the chevy pitman arm and make it fit? If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears

What year vic boxes are you breaking? Are you running power steering? Do you want manual or power steer? Honestly, I myself have never broken a box vic box. I seem to think they are pretty sturdy. I know not running power steering takes a toll on all steering boxes, so take that into consideration.

I broke my 88 crown Vic box and a 99 crown Vic. I wasn't running ps, after breaking two I realize that not running ps is definetly my problem. I've been tempted to try a new crown Vic box with the ps hooked up but I feel like after reading different forums the chevys are better?

Never had a problem with ford boxes, but I always run power steering.

Two bolt Ford box with power steering and adequate steering stops for me on Fords. The time spent switching to a GM box should be spent running power steering and making steering stops. Of course as usual this just my opinion. I have broken a few Ford boxes and many GM boxes. The cause was always when the box exceeded its mechanical turning radius limits. A death grip on the steering wheel while being hit in the front wheel is pretty hard on a box too.

2 bolt Vic box with PS is good to go.
If you wanna switch to a GM box, you can use the adapter plate if you want but not needed. You will need the Ford pitman arm for whatever center link you're using and grind out the 4 wide teeth in the pitman arm and it will go right on.

I'd still run power steering though.
