I'm a mopar Junkie but shockers and even y-framers are getting fewer and fewer and as expensive as #$%!!@!!
I'm looking into getting into 03+ fords.(rumor has they are okay) My questions are:
What drivetrain should a guy run? can you run the factory fuel injection and do well? should a guy drop in a small block chevy and th400?
Are stock diffs usable? or should a guy be swapping in 9"? stock spindles? ball joints?
What stuff should I start collecting now if i want to be running these cars in the next 2-3 years?
what do you guys run? What works for you?
Thanks.

Since you have run mopars in the past running a mopar motor/trans and rear (8 3/4) I would think would make more sense than switching to sbc?

I was thinking the same thing. Throw some mopar parts in a vic.

no offense but kinda sounds like you dont know anything about vics let alone an 03 and newer one. Id maybe start by build a few older vics first and start saving some parts off them, then step up to the 03 world. with an 03 you are starting with bare frame rails basically. look into all the crown vic threads tons of info. Look into buying a bolt in cradle.

^^^^^He's right. It'll be a lot easier and a lot better learning experience of you start with a box vic. Hell, even early 90s are good starters to learn from. Any and every question you might have had probably been discussed. You should start reading all of the main vic threads, 79-97, 98-02, 03+ etc. They all have the info you need to build any vic you want. And I would stick with your mopar setup if you have a good setup. If not, you can always dabble into the sbc lifestyle.

I'm not a fullsize guy so I may be mistaken, but if he wants to build 03+ isn't building 02- a waste of time up front being that they are completely different animals and need to be built completely differently? He isn't taking about getting one built to run a big show next month. he is talking about a yr or 2 down the line. which by then he should be able to buy the kit to build one.

Not really a whole different monster, but a lot of differences. I started with box vics, got comfortable with them, learned the ins and outs, and moved up from there. If I were to do it again, I would still start with box vics. I'm not too experienced with the 03+ frames quite yet. Im no expert on them at all. But, my knowledge of box vics has helped me build 03+. A lot of guys think they are the same frame, just stronger, but you are correct on one thing boom61, they are very different in many ways.

If you have a imp sub laying around and a good set of leafs from one of your mopars and the rules and regulations allow it then put that stuff on the 03...
