Have a neighbor that is moving away and has a stash of Jeeps, some CJ5 and CJ7, along with one Wrangler. They don't have titles and I can get them very cheap. Any thoughts as to running them in a compact pickup/SUV class?

Wouldn't even think twice. It's a no brainer, don't do it. Short narrow wheel base, top heavy, and not enough material in the body for me.

Depending on location, I might try to talk you out of a repairable one.

The frames would pretty weak for a derby application would be my guess because the offroad guys that run CJs often have to re-enforce the frames to get them to be able to survive severe offroad use.

Even very rough CJs bring decent money.

Minnesota/Iowa border. I ended up buying a Cherokee from him and the CJ/Wrangler stuff got cleaned out by someone else.
After looking closer at them the Wrangler frame looked decent, but that's about it. I could see using a Wrangler frame for a building base on a 5' compact class as it would be extremely easy to work with and plate.
