Hey fellas.. I read the LS engine thread 3 times and searched everywhere, including google and can't find answers. I'm swapping a 5.3/80E into my 81 LTD Vic; it'll get a pair of GT35 turbos once it's stuffed in and live on the street. No matter which way I push and prod, I can't get this sumbitch to fit in this car. I can't get it low enough or far enough forward to clear the firewall with the bellhousing. Oil pan sitting right on the crossmember, still too big. I know I can get an F-body or Vette, even an H3 pan, but the measurements on all of those seem even worse than the truck pan in the crossmember department. I KNOW a few of you clowns have stuffed an LS in a box vic for demo use, and I assume tilting the frame makes this easier. Has anyone done without tilting or raising the body? I want to keep this car as stock as possible, but the only solution I've found is to recreate the crossmember. However if I do that, the pan still will hit the center link. Do I need to swap to a rack??

which motor mounts are you using? are you using the stock ls mounts or the adaptor plates to use normal clamshells?

Those have plenty of clearance, but it's just the pan clearance I'm struggling with. The F-body, Hummer, and Vette pans are all deeper than the truck pan but have a shallower sump. I can handle the deep sump, but I definitely cannot afford to get any higher by swapping pans

Yeah, I've read that thread a few times as well... There's no mention of cutting or a pan swap, so my dilemma is still present lol. I vamboulsed with it for 3 hours again last night and the only thing I can see is to build a new crossmember and switch to rack and pinion. I KNOW there's gotta be something I'm missing

Stub it Cross member fwd with 03+ stub I'd just do a complete 03+ frame swap, they handle a million times better from the factory.

I ought to have it wrapped around a tree within not too long so I don't want to spend the time and money on a frame swap, but that is an interesting idea. I haven't pulled the pan yet, but maybe cutting and flipping a chunk on the front of the sump is an option. My welder has spool gun capability I guess
