I was just given a 91 Lumina as a derby car. 1st time building an FI 60* GM and I'm lost.
This car cranks slow then runs a couple seconds, proceeds to back-fire and starts on fire.
Once the fire is out, I can smell fuel in the intake and if I move the snorkel down fuel dumps out of the intake.
It does this time after time and I have no arm hair left. I'm to the point of stripping the heads and intake off and dropping on a carbbed 2.8 topend.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Pull the line off the fuel regulator and turn the pump on. Its probably blown out. Only way you'll get that much fuel into the intake.

Could be fuel regulator, could be bad shorted wire making all injectors dump fuel, could be jumped timing chain

Got it to run once without backfiring after redoing all of the plugs and wires.
After it ran that one time it won't even sputter now. It just cranks and cranks. I gave up this weekend but will take another look next weekend and let everyone know if the fuel pres reg is it.

Injectors couldn't fill the intake though. If they were stuck open, the engine would hydrolock. That's the main reason I'm thinking the regulator. Straight stream into intake, and wouldn't necessarily fill the cylinders up.
