Here's my scenario, I have a '92 Roadmaster bubble top wagon, strong running 350 chev engine. I ran it this past weekend and shortly into my heat the transmission started to act up. After the dust settled I have reverse, little or no OD D 3 or 2 and good manual 1st. Car is still in good shape and solid. Would you (regardless of brand) swap the trans (pretend you don't have one and you'd have to pull one or buy one) or run it and hope for the best. Chain and go class, All fluids look good, wont be running it until next summer so time isn't an issue. Thanks!

Next year I'd change the trans. Next weekend I'd add some brake fluid and run it till she melts down.

We have a 93 driver and just had the same thing happen. All over the internet about this being a problem with that trans. Seems to happen to most with 125-150k miles. Was able to limp home in 1st. Trans guy said reverse was next. Get a new trans especially with a lot of car left.

After the dust settled I have reverse, little or no OD D 3 or 2 and good manual 1st. If I follow correctly, it doesn't want to move unless all the way down in manual 1? Assuming that correct you most likely blew the sprag out of it. The sprag only does any thing in the other forward gears, and the L/R clutches take over in manual one. The other scenario is that the forward clutches are toast and only work with the higher line pressure of manual 1st. to check it take it out on your back test track start in manual I then when it would be time to shift move the shifter to 2nd or 3rd see if if flares then shifts or just slides into 2nd. Factory trans in that car should be a 700r4.

Ok Thanks guys. I guess I will swap it out. I didn't want to go through all of it if it would be ok but its too good of a car to waste.
