I'm planning on attempting to build my own BBM cradle and a 727 trans protector. What type of cradle mounts should I set myself up for? should i use chevy mounts welded to the frame to seat the cradle or should i just use original mopar mounts? also will a tightly webbed trans protecter fit under a stock tunnel or will the floor need to be cut out? is 3/8 plate too thin?

Be careful when building it where you attach it to the engine, at different temps engines expand in different areas. You don't want to stress the cyl head for example by not letting it expand where necessary. Some other guys on here may have more info on this, we can run them where I'm from.

So should a guy die grind and oval or slot the mounting holes that the mount the cradle to the block then?

That might help but I think the theory is to attach it in as few spots as possible, as little as possible to the heads because I believe that there's more expansion/shifting in the block to head relationship. I would look at chevy cradles on here for sale and see what features you can apply to yours. I never got a chance to actually build and test one myself, I started researching them and the promoters banned them.

I'm not looking to build a full cradle with front/rear plates. that is far beyond my level of precision, I'd just flat out buy one before slowly torturing myself and inevitably sacrificing heaps of good plate iron to my scrap bin. I'm just looking to build a cradle that hoops under the front of the motor and takes the place of the engine motor mounts. big block mopars are bad for snapping off engine ears.

I really like M-1's stuff looks great. But there's just something special about having crafted parts yourself. headers aren't worth crafting considering dec is so cheap they are nearly disposable at their prices. protectors, shifters, cradles, its cool to look at those parts and say "I made that"
