Any strength difference between stock big or small bolt GM axles ? 10 bolt C-clip rear-end .

I believe a 28 spline axle is as strong as another 28 spline axle. The smaller bolt pattern axles usually have smaller wheel studs that will brake off sometimes. Many people have bad luck with c clip rears and 28 spline axles. I always have as well.

I would assume so yes but I've never measured them. They are also probably gonna be really wide

See, I don't really understand why no body likes C Clip rear ends. I have never had a problem. Any 90 and newer 8.5 will have 30 spline axles.

Its likely because when c clip axles breaks they fall out. Typically when a BIA breaks it stays in place. And I assume because the way the two are designed the c clip axles are weaker then the BIAs but I don't know for sure because I have bent and broke all of them numerous times.

See I always thought that C Clip axles were tougher than BIA...

IDK I have broke them at the splines and at the bearing/hub. I guess it all depends on the hit and whether you are on the gas or the brakes when the hit happens. It also matters if you have decent gears, some horsepower, the track conditions, the size of track, and how hard the cars are that you are running against. I guess at the end of the day its just like most things, its all personal preference. Personally, I wouldn't pull a free c clip rear out of a free car that I was taking to the crusher. Of course as usual, this is just my opinion. Some people have had decent luck with them. I have not.

To each their own I suppose. Lol but I have been running the 30/31 spline c clippers since I started in 2009 without any issues. I broke one 28 spline. I've only ran a BIA rearend once. I run a manual transmission so I can run the stock gears with no real issues.

I just got one one of the newer 8.5s the other day but noticed why are the drums so damn big?!? Obviously they come that way, I'm guessing I'm gonna have to change the shields and the drums off a truck to go smaller on rim? Or would you just run a 15? Like for instance I can't even fit my fingers between the drum and the rim on the axle... Don't know if it's a good or bad thing...
