My 8 3/4 broke both axle shafts on its last run. One broke off clean at the splines and the other broke all jagged near the side bearing. They broke quick only made two hits. The diff is welded. Would a bent axle housing cause this? The car is a 65 imp pre ran, but these axles were fresh. Its got me puzzled.

There are many things that can lead to axle failure. Not braking while taking hits on wheels is probably the biggest issue. But, bent housing can cause it, running axle saver's helps a ton. But, even the best stuff breaks. Part of the sport. Sometimes you win, sometimes you dont.

I had stock imperial wheels with doubled tires. Never took a wheel shot at all. I have had good luck with other 8 3/4 in different cars. This car has been ran many times, and for some reason you cant keep axles in it. The housing could be bent from earlier runs , car has been ganged up on before, but on this run it had axles and pumpkin out of another imp that I never had any issues with. ran for 2 minutes and everything snapped. Could a bent housing do this?

If the housing was bent wouldn't it be hard to put fresh axles in if not impossible? Just thinking out loud here. Question tho, how do you drive that imp? Wide open slamming gears or hitting the brakes then shifting? If your shifting gears under throttle the weight of the doubled tires might have something to do with it. I Reread your post, sounds like the axles you got out of the other imp you had no problems with are pre ran? If so it could have already been weakened from wheel shots that could explain the one axle breaking by the outside bearing.

I'd never run doubled tires on stock axles except full floaters. JMO.

Ive bent and broke axles on both 8 3/4 I ran. One with 15 skid steers and one on 23 14s. I'm not a fan. However any axle will brake of it takes the right shot.

Are you running rear brakes on the car?
