I have a 1976 Ford Ltd and the steering rod coming off the pitman arm is rubbing the oil pan on my small block. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Bend the center link down or use a front sump oil pan.

Im not sure if a rear steer Ford is designed like a rear steer Cadillac. But carefully heating and bending both ends of the idler and pitman arms can easily give you a 2 inch drop in your drag link. The draglink can be modified as well if necessary. This is not necessarily an easy task as keeping the angles correct during the dropping process is crucial. Not a typical rookie builder type maneuver. But not really that hard with some mechanical abilities and basic geometry understanding. This concept might be irrelevant on Fords. IDK Just throwing it out there. I typically draw a silhouette of the part on my work bench, then do the mods constantly referring to the silhouette as a guideline to maintain proper steering angles. If you change any of the steering geometry you typically add additional resistance and increase the potential of part failure. JMO

And not all idler arms have the ability to be disassembled to perform the necessary modifications. I have no idea if its a realistic option on a 70s Ford as I have never ran one other than bone stock stuff.

I've found the best option to do is to set the motor in there and mark where on the frame the fuel pump would touch the frame (if your using mechanical) and then pull motor back out and cut the frame out where it would set for clearance and then take 1/8" plate and box it back in, thats what i did on my 79 t-bird and it worked great even with the frame bending in front of the spring pocket. jmo
