Alright guys. I am not sure what to do. Last night I put my new 2 barrel intake on my chevy 305. As I was bolting on my carburetor spacer I dropped a nut down one of the intake holes... I pulled the intake off to try to find the nut but can't find it. I was digging around looking in the head by the valves with my flashlight and I can see clearly that the valves are closed enough that a 5/16 but would not fall into the cylinder. So I started fishing around with a bendy magnet to see if I could pick the nut up but no luck. I shook the intake all around and it didn't fall out. I am not sure what to do next because I should be able to see the darn thing but I can't. I have no idea where it could have gone.

There only one for sure way to resolve that... Pull the heads.... Otherwise you're gonna be shooting in the dark

Use a bore scope and pull the plugs. If it's in a cylinder you'll see it. You can also check the intake runners on the heads will save you from extra work.

Maybe when pulling the intake it fell down the valley, into the oil pan?

take plugs out and spin it over by hand real slow and see if something hits and stops you then start looking for that?!?
Is it in a car or on a stand? Can you tilt it so the plug holes are facing the ground might fall out of cylinder but I can't see it making it that far passed the intake valves. Good luck

Its in the car, figures. All my years of being a technician never done that. So pissed at myself. I was gonna borrow my buddies little milwaukee borescope/ camera tool tonight and look. Also that was my plan is turn it over slowly by hand and listen.

How certain are you it fell in the intake? If you don't find it in the cylinders, drain the oil and take a heavy magnet across the bottom of the pan towards the drain plug hole in case it did drop in the engine when you pulled the intake.
