IMO isn't worth the hassle or money to put a gm trans behind a mopar engine.A good rebuilt 727 will take just as much abuse as a GM transmission.

I agree with hemi1. I had some mopar tranny touble a few yrs back and thought a switch to gm tranny would be the answer but then watched a video on utube how to rebuild 727s-was super easy, installing extra clutches, red eagle frictons, kolene steels and turning up the pump pressure makes these way stronger than a stock gm so unless you are upgrading their internals I wouldnt switch.

Did you have the drums machined to accept the extra clutches? I've rebuilt several 727's over the years but knock on wood I'm still running the original two I rebuilt when I was at votech in 2003.

No, didnt have machining done. You can buy machined drums but they're expensive. I bought some thinner frictions for one of the rebuilds and mixed and matched to get right. I got them off ebay but I cant seem to find the vendor anymore. On a couple others I piled up several of the steels to take the place of the thick endpiece(cant remember what theyre called) and havent had any failures. I took one apart after about 4 runs to check it and really wasnt much wear-however I did find my pump bolts were all loose so I locktite them now, not sure if thats recommended but I am going to continue doing so lol

crank up the line pressure, run rear brakes, lift when you shift. Problems over.

And run a deeper pan or a trans cooler.
