Axles aren't the issue with a 9", the center section is.

Axles aren't the issue with a 9", the center section is. X2 daytona pinion support helps a bunch but if you want a bullet proof center it's time to step up to a aftermarket nodular center.

I've blew 4 centers in my 9", each time using the same stock 31 spline axles. There's too many variables to determine if you should upgrade the axles or not. If you're not running 200lb tires and a high-horsepower setup, don't worry about it. Shoot, I use the stock 8.8s in all my vics and f150s and haven't had a problem. Only reason I got the 9" was because it came with a car. I will swap it into my 5ft vic when the stock 8.8 blows, but until then, stock is my choice.
