For axle savers. Do you have the steel of the savers on the outer edge of the axle flange? Or do do you have it just behind the axle flange? I've looked at past pictures of savers and I can't really tell. It may look like part of them are behind the flange while otherS are encompassing the flange. It will be for a 14 bolt corporate. I have drums all stripped off and just have the hubs on now just ready to make some.

I believe you will need 8" inside diameter pipe. I think some of them are designed to have the flange sit down in and still surround the axle. if it isn't behind the flange, what good is it?

How and why would you use them on a floater?
The axles aren't part of the hub and the axle plate that bolts to the hub is in the wide open getting hit anyways.
Pointless on a floater IMO

Almost every stock 8 lug that I've seen that Is braced up heavily has bent at the end of housing,or hubs. I'm working on basically same thing your talking about, like an axle saver to keep it from happening.

What's the diameter of the 14 bolt hub? Was going to measure last night so I could cut some pipe today at work and totally forgot.

I'm pretty sure that you need 8" inside diameter pipe

Got some I will post pictures when completed. Im guessing you strengthened your axle tubes after the picture also.

I did not. I put my coil/leaf brackets on. tubes are 1/2" thick.

Just posting in here to see if I get my answer. Ford 9". I want to build one and have a budget of a grand. I also am building a 468 bbc so money is tied up. I know stock Ford 9" have 31 spline axles. Would they work well enough with axles savers, bracing, pinion brake set up? I am shooting for 35 spline mosers. If things fall through ill have the 9" with 31's or if all goes well ill have the rear end built like I want. Just looking for feedback. No, I will not weld gears and I will no run a GM rear end. GM fan though! 95 vic wire car.

Just be sure to not be heavy on the pedal when taking a shot in the wheel or you'll break them off at the spines.

GM fan though! 95 vic wire car. Built a 31 spline 9" last fall. Axle savers, pinion brake, braced (not very well, ran out of time), geared, full spooled for a hair under a grand. Probably could have been done cheaper but was in a rush. Looking back save the extra little money and upgrade to 35 splines. I personally haven't seen or had issues with 31 splines but do it once and don't worry about it.

Do 35 splines. I hear of too many people breaking stock 31 spline axles.
