Found some there off a mid 60s gm. Pretty sure there not a drop spindle. 5x5 pattern. 9 in tall.

I would say 68 or so full size Olds or Pontiac. Not sure on the Buicks but Chevy is small pattern 65 to 70. These cars would be drum brakes and should have decent spindles.

Decent compared to what? Are you comparing them to a stock 71-76 GM or a stock early 80s Ford spindle? Which brakes you run if any is irrelevant when determining spindle strength. I have never compared them, just asking the obvious question. Im guessing that is way more important than than the whole disc vs drum brake debate. Typically, its the spindle that bends, not the brakes. I have no practical experience to offer on this subject as I have never ran front drum brakes.

Decent as in better than most of the other choices they are similar to a 71-76 spindle but not as good as them I do t run front brakes and luckily never had spindle problems. The spindles off the older Pontiacs also should be taller like what he wanted.

Thinking about cutting my spindles and welding some flat stock to the backside to make a taller spindle. It'll be a 73 caddy spindle. Good idea or not?

I've never heard of any one doing that. I thought they were cast or something. IDK

Did a little googling. I figured they couldn't be cast iron or they would break very often. So what I found before 70 most were forged and after were cast steel. weldable and will allow to bend. Might give a shot. Money and time it'll take to get a set of knuckles from Vic I might be able to have something better. Not sure it'll work just thinking out the box.
