Ok guys I been looking into building me a new engine for the up coming year and I ran across a 1966 327 short block that has been bored 30 over all it needs is cam bearings and heads and cam. However I have never really messed with a 327 before are they pretty good engines for derby purpose what's there pros and cons

High Rev motors. Had a 283 I loved and ran for years. Only ran one 327 and I like them if built right.

A 66 will be a small journal = forged steel crank. Very good rpm motor even better with modern lightweight pistons and rods.

make sure you use a smaller intake runner head.... a 200 up larger head will be hard on the low end

Doesnt have to move as far in the same amount of time. Same thing as piston speed. A smaller stroke engine will have a slower piston speed because its going a shorter distance in the same RPM versus a longer stroked engine. Like a 327 (3.25") vs. a 383 (3.75").

i ran across this 327 thats bored .060 over. which head will be best if i stroke it. double hump head or power pack? also bigger valves are a must in either head i go with.

Happen to check cylinder wall thickness being .60 over? Some castings were good some bad
