What length bolts (1/4 dp) are you using to put the torque convertor on? Mine seem to long or to short.

What is the point of the longer dowel pins and crank spacer? I just ran a car with a 1/4" dp and only spaced the torque convertor. I don't think anything broke and it all drove fine the whole derby. What is the purpose of them? Should I install them before I put the motor in another car?

^^^ you will see when the bushing in the front of your tranny pushes out and spews fluid everywhere the converter spacer is needed might not happen real fast but the spacer I got with mine pushed back on to the converter 1/8 of a inch and pushed mine out with the wobble in 2 runs plus the converter bolts need to spaced evenly with the spacer

What? My convertor is spaced evenly. Will not having the crank spacer cause it to wobble? Will the wobble happen over time or should I have noticed it right away? Should I just PM Pourdown437 on his facebook? Do I only need to space the crank if the midplate doesn't fit between the flywheel and engine in stock location?
I didn't notice this wobble anyone is mentioning. I ran the DP in a figure 8 last Wednesday, and a derby last Friday. I ran 2 heats in each. Never once had an issue with the transmission. So perhaps with my thin midplate, I don't need the dowels or crank spacer.

Start your car, turn the engine idle up to 1500 RPMs and then crawl under your car and look how much flexing/wobbling your flexplate is doing. Then make your own decision if a crank spacer is nescessary. You might not need it, but mine was a wobbling POS. And my starter even hit the flexplate under acceleration. And that was only with a 1/4 midplate. You might not need one. I wont ever run any size midplate without the proper crank and torque converter spacers. JMO

Here is a thought. A stock SBC flexplate is notorious for cracking and breaking on their own. Do you think that the torque converter moving 1/4 inch everytine you make a hit is going to extend its life any. You might get lucky and run a 1/4 midplate for years without issues. It is totally possible. It is also just as possible that you have mechanical failure due to improper setup. I cant determine when or where it might happen. It might be in your driveway and it might be in the feature. I dont know. Is that a risk you are willing to take.

The converter hits the end of crank to keep it spinning straight with nothing there the shaft of the converter moves around "wobble" mine looked good felt good for 2 runs and the converter spun it out which caused the seal rubber to push out and spew fluid I would use spacer on new converter cause old ones have wear they all wear different that's why mine moved I do believe
