How would i go about building a set of flat stack springs. What do i need to get this done. I have been informed that i will have to run against imps. I already have 8-3/4. Im building them for 79 aspen. Maybe a waste of time bjt i want to see how hard i can make this car. Thanks for any help. Could i just use stock leafs from aspen plus leafs from 8-3/4 which came out of 66 belvedere.

An Aspen vs. Imperials.... I would suggest you take the time you were going to spend on leaf springs and use it to build a ginormous safety cage with lots of padding.

Got that covered. I will be going against tilted fords in heat and imps if make it to feature. Either way both can be hard cars

Yeah i undertand but im the type of person who has to try it. Its not so much about winning as it is seeing if my ideas will work to make car harder. Front frame is seem welded and folded over and welded again k frame is welded with pucks removed full cradle and tranny brace, slider braced 8-3/4 with mosers. And a pretty stout cage all 3 inch round stock by 1/4 inch thick. Gas tank protector its no joke.

Thats all fine and dandy but I speak from experience when I say a 03+ can trash a rbody in one shot up the ass. If your going to run it I would take the main and move it to the frame rail then flip at least two out of the 5 leafs.

How many leafs can you have?
Can you have any down tubes? If you can, make your rollover bar tie into the front leaf shackle.
Also, can you short leaf it?

first of all, this discussion should be in the F/M/J thread so that it doesn't disappear over time. But anyway...
...an Aspen is the same as a Dippy chassis, so the leaf springs are already under the frame rails. There is no relocating to be done there. The leaves are already pretty short, not sure if there is much opportunity to make them shorter. You can take them apart and flat stack if you want to though.
The rear spring mount is right at the end of the frame so make doggone sure you keep it from ripping loose. It's going to have a lot of pressure on it with the flat stack as you use the trunk. The kickers around the gas tank will help if they are firmly attached to the front/top corner of the frame humps (right where it turns down behind the rear seat). Otherwise it will pivot at the forward termination of the frame rails under the rear seat.
Chain the humps to the axle. You're going to have a trick on your hands keeping the rear from going down once you make it stiff. I would canoe the lid from front to back, deep. May help redistribute some of the impact forces. If you can run a rear window bar up to your rollover bar it will help.
I love these cars for stock shows but you've got a tall order vs. the competition you are describing. I wish you luck.

BTW in the aforementioned F/M/J body tips thread there is some discussion about swapping in 8-3/4 axles already.

I truly can offer no assistance with this idea. Very limited in mopar builds and my rules have never allowed such changes. My comment is this......I applaud your resistance to the naysayers. Determination is a great asset. It appears as though you know the odds going into this scenario and yet you've chosen to roll the dice. You got your balls busted a little bit but, I'm sure you knew some of that was going to happen. I say build it right, wind it tight, and let er' eat. Who knows, you may end up being overlooked by your competition. This is a thread I would like to follow. If its within your means please keep us posted on your progress. Good luck. One last mention, to the people who have posted on this thread, its nice to see some positive responses instead of the usual down talk.
