I'm new to the FORD drivelines, I'm mostly a GM guy... So here is my question. I recently bought a fully rebuilt 1980 302 (from a Grand Marquis I think) really cheap. I have a 1987 grand marquis with a trashed engine and good transmission. Will this 1987 transmission bolt to my 1980 302? Is the 1980 302 a direct fit in my 1987 Marquis body? (Motor mounts...) My 1980 302 is carburated, so I dont need all the wiring junk...
Are this engine and this transmission reliable? Again, i'm running in a light weld class. Any information will be really appreciated!

yes,, it will bolt,,,,
you have to adjust the AODs trans TV lever to 3/4 open,, weld it in place with a bracket.

Thank you very much! Never ran an 302 before. Is it a good derby engine? How does it handles heat? IS the trans OK? Thanks for your opinions!

Can handle heat well with ADEQUATE TUNING / cooling system just as a gm can. Agree on the Aod. make sure the "kick down looking lever" is wired 1/2-3/4 open with a good cooler.

302/aod combos is all I run....They will take the heat as well as any other properly tuned engine will and as for the aod I havent lost one but I also run the Tv lever wide open and I also only have 1st and reverse in my trans.

AOD will do good as long as you STOP before shifting. The C6 is by far my favorite of ford trannys. Hard to find them for SBF though.

Right, STOP before shifting and you'll never loose one. If your hot headed and you like to shift without lifting off the throttle then find a FMX or C-6 they can take about anything you can dish out to them.

A ford will outlive any pos GM engine. Let them keep running GM crap while you take there money with a sbf

I'm able to get a C6 from a F-250 1979 that was equipped with a 400. I'm assuming it will bolt on my 302? Thanks!

^^^ Nope. 400 has the same boltpatern as the bigblock 429/460. You need a smallblock boltpatern. Welcome to the Ford world...

Is a C6 from a F-350 1968 equipped with a 390 will fit my 302? Thanks for your input. I don't know anything about those Fords...

no... c6 frome these engines will work. 260-289-302-351w- or straight 6 engines such as 221,250,300 will work.

Applications:
1978–1991 Ford Bronco 1967–1996 Ford F-Series 1964–1970 Ford Fairlane 1966-1974 Ford Galaxie 1966–1980 Ford LTD 1977–1979 Ford LTD II 1966–1979 Ford Ranchero 1966–1979 Ford Thunderbird 1968–1976 Ford Torino 1966–1979 Lincolns 1966–1969 Mercury Comet 1967–1978 Mercury Cougar 1966–1972 Mercury Meteor 1968–1976 Mercury Montego 1968–1974 Mercury Monterey Find one of these^ with a small block or straight six and it probably has a C6 attached to it.
...also if your going to the yard, bring a buddy...or two. the C6 is a HEAVY transmission.
